physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession dedicated to working with people to identify and maximize their ability to move and function throughout their lifespan.
It involves assessment, diagnosis, and treatment using evidence-based techniques such as manual therapy, exercise prescription, education, and rehabilitation strategies. Physiotherapy helps individuals recover from injury, manage chronic conditions, improve mobility, and enhance overall physical well-being.
The Role of a physiotherapist
Physiotherapists, using judgement and techniques based on education, science and research, will work with patients to walk and move freely after injury, recover mobility after illness or surgery, manage chronic diseases like arthritis, cardiovascular problems and diabetes, and much more. Your physiotherapist will work with you to put together a treatment plan for your condition or injury, so that you can get back to enjoying life and the activities you love.
The Physiotherapists at Rehab Plus work with clients of all ages and with a wide range of health conditions. Whether it is pain management and rehabilitation from an acute injury like a sprained ankle, or management of chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease, we can help.
Physiotherapy Services
Orthopaedic & Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation
Our physiotherapists assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions, including acute injuries, joint dysfunction, soft tissue injuries, and chronic pain. Interventions are tailored to address the specific needs of each patient, with an emphasis on restoring optimal movement, strength, and functional capacity.
Evidence-based treatment may include manual therapy, targeted exercise prescription, and education to support long-term recovery and prevent re-injury. Whether your goal is to return to work, daily activities, or recreational pursuits, our team provides comprehensive care to help you move with greater confidence and reduced pain.
Pre- & Post-Operative Rehab
Our physiotherapists provide evidence-based rehabilitation to support patients before and after orthopedic surgeries such as joint replacements, ligament reconstructions, tendon repairs, and fracture fixation surgeries.
Pre-operative rehabilitation focuses on optimizing strength, mobility, and overall conditioning to help improve post-surgical outcomes and recovery time.
Following surgery, we work closely with patients to reduce pain and swelling, restore range of motion, and progressively rebuild strength and function. Treatment plans are tailored to each individual’s surgical procedure, recovery timeline, and goals to ensure a safe and effective return to daily activities, work, or sport.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Our cardiac rehabilitation program is designed to help individuals improve cardiovascular fitness, manage heart conditions, and reduce cardiac risk factors. It also supports patients in safely recovering and regaining strength following cardiac surgery. Patients first undergo an assessment with a physiotherapist and are paired with a cardiac rehab supervisor who guides them through a personalized exercise plan, including group sessions twice a week. Exercises such as walking, cycling, rowing, and resistance training are used to strengthen both the heart and body.
Throughout the program, our physiotherapists and kinesiologists work closely with patients, monitor progress, offer condition-specific education and guidance, and support them in achieving their rehabilitation goals—helping them safely return to work, daily life, and recreational activities.
Vestibular Rehabilitation
If you experience dizziness, vertigo, or balance issues, our vestibular rehabilitation program can help.
Vestibular rehabilitation is a specialized form of physiotherapy used to treat vestibular disorders or symptoms, characterized by dizziness, vertigo, and trouble with balance, posture, and vision.
Our physiotherapists use targeted exercises and hands-on techniques such as the Epley maneuver to retrain your balance system, reduce symptoms, and restore stability, helping you move more safely and confidently.
Industrial Rehabilitation
(Including WSIB Claims for Workplace Injuries)
Our industrial rehabilitation program helps employees recover and return to work safely and efficiently after a workplace injury. The goal is to restore functional capacity and enable individuals to perform the tasks of their job without pain or risk of further injury.
We offer a range of services to support this process, including:
● Ergonomic assessments
● Work hardening and conditioning
● Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs)
● Return-to-work programs
These services help individuals regain pre-injury abilities, reduce pain and discomfort, and prevent future injuries—ensuring a smooth and confident transition back to work. Physiotherapy services are covered for those with WSIB claims.
Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Rehab
At Rehab Plus, we also treat motor vehicle accident (MVA) injuries, helping individuals recover from issues such as whiplash, soft tissue damage, and musculoskeletal injuries. Following a thorough assessment, our physiotherapists create personalized treatment plans focused on restoring mobility, reducing pain, increasing strength, and improving overall function. Our physiotherapists and kinesiologists work with you every step of the way to support your recovery and help you return to your regular activities while minimizing the risk of long-term complications and re-injury.
We offer direct billing for MVA-related physiotherapy services through your auto insurance and extended health coverage.
Sports Injury Rehabilitation
From sprains and strains to post-surgical recovery, we offer sport-specific rehabilitation to help athletes of all ages get back to their sport. Our weekly Sports Injury Clinic ensures quick access to care, with a physiotherapist, sports medicine physician, and kinesiologist working together to assess, treat, and design a personalized plan that promotes fast, safe return to sport.
Walk-ins are welcome, space permitting, and physiotherapy services are covered by OHIP for patients 19 and under, 65 and older, or post-hospitalization.
Concussion Management
As a certified Complete Concussions location, we provide a full, evidence-based concussion management program — including everything from pre-season baseline testing to concussion treatment and rehabilitation — helping our patients and athletes safely return to learn, work, and play.
We also offer free access to the CCMI Concussion Sideline Course to help patients, parents, coaches, trainers, and teachers better understand concussion care and recovery.
Neurological Rehabilitation
Our physiotherapists provide evidence-based rehabilitation for patients with neurological conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries. We focus on assessing and addressing deficits in movement, balance, coordination, and strength to help patients regain independence and improve quality of life.
Treatment is individualized to each patient’s condition, abilities, and goals, and may include targeted exercise programs, balance and gait training, manual therapy, functional mobility practice, and assistive device training when needed. Our goal is to maximize recovery, promote safe mobility, and support patients in returning to daily activities, work, and recreational pursuits.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Our physiotherapists also provide care for individuals with respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, bronchiectasis, and post-COVID or other lung impairments. Programs begin with a thorough assessment, including a review of your medical history, a breathing evaluation, and physical testing to determine your current fitness level.
Treatment is tailored to your abilities and goals, and may include breathing exercises, stretching, and cardiovascular conditioning, as well as education on proper breathing techniques, positions to manage breathlessness, and energy conservation strategies. Your program is continuously adapted as you progress to help improve respiratory function, exercise tolerance, and overall health, while helping you breathe easier, increase independence, and participate confidently in work, daily activities, and hobbies you enjoy.
TMJ Dysfunction Therapy
Rehab Plus provides treatment for individuals experiencing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, including jaw pain, clicking or popping, limited jaw movement, headaches, and associated facial or neck discomfort. We focus on assessing and addressing the underlying causes of TMJ dysfunction to reduce pain and restore normal jaw function.
Treatment may include manual therapy, targeted jaw and neck exercises, posture correction, education on jaw movement strategies, and techniques to manage pain and muscle tension. Our goal is to relieve discomfort, improve jaw mobility, and support participation in daily activities, work, and social interactions with greater comfort and confidence.
